For me, it's in the garden. That's where I feel closest to the majesty which is God, and His creation, this Earth. If you are a gardener like me, then perhaps you too have found this feeling revealed in the dirt, plants, herbs and flowers which we grow.

Sir Francis Bacon wrote in 1620: "God Almighty first planted a Garden. And indeed it is the purest of human pleasures. It is the greatest refreshment to the spirits of man; without which buildings and palaces are but gross handyworks." According to a Gallup Poll in 1980, "On any given weekend up to 78% of American households are out working the earth." If they do not have a plot of ground, then they are caring for potted houseplants or window boxes as their gardens. Where does this amazing feature of man's character come from?

This God who created the Garden of Eden, the Creator and Gardener, also created man in his own image and likeness. Is it any wonder then that we should have this strong desire to breed, plant and care for the trees, shrubs, herbs and flowers that God gave us?? We feel the need to be good stewards of this land given to us by God. We also desire to make our gardens quiet sanctuaries away from the stresses, cares and concerns of this world. This primordial desire links us back to our beginnings in the Garden of Eden. It connects us to our Creator. It is a desire so strong that it must be fulfilled.

As I wait for spring to arrive, I begin to feel these stirrings within. By March it will be so strong, that on any warm day, I will emerge from the cocoon of my house, and practically run to the herb garden! As you begin to feel this "spring fever" also, I hope you will remember this blog. And I pray that you will remember to give thanks to God, the Creator and Gardener, for your little plot of paradise He has given to you!

Lisa

Photo Gallery of the snowy herb garden

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5295590913523097794" style="FLOAT: right; Many door prizes were awarded and each person took home a copy of The Tea House Times, a victorian tea magazine! A fun time was had by all!!

For more pictures of the Tea, and a descriptive narrative for each photo, go to 2008 Christmas Tea Photo Gallery
